     Is your mind open to God?  Or is it sealed to God?  Why can one person read the Bible and see clearly God’s commands, and another read the same words and understand nothing?  How can I read the Bible and understand that homosexuality and abortion are wrong – are terrible sin – and a politician can stand up and tell me the Bible doesn’t ever mention homosexuality or abortion? 

     The difference is being alive and reading the Bible versus being dead in sins and trespasses and reading the Bible.

     How many of you know that the Bible is cryptic; it can’t be truly understood as God intended unless you are born of God’s spirit; unless you have His Spirit in you leading and guiding you?  There are many people who are religious, but are dead spiritually.  And Jesus said, “Except a man be born again,” and that means born of the Spirit of God, “he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3) 

     And that’s why it’s important for you to get involved in your community and in politics.  It’s important that you be making policy and running the government.  Because if you don’t, those who don’t heed God’s word will make policy and you’ll have to live under it.  God teaches us to submit ourselves to all authority.  And you’ll have to live under a regime which incites you to break God’s commandments.

     But how do I know what to do?  How do I know where God wants me to be involved and what He wants me to do?  How am I going to be inspired to step out and do new things?  How will I find the time and energy to fight for what I know to be right and in line with God’s word?

     Read your Bible.  Spend time in God’s Word every day and you’ll learn and you'll be inspired.  Then pray, pray, pray, pray, pray, and ask God to lead you … and He will.  It all begins when you read your Bible.
